EDITORIAL STANDARD
We like a sharp story. We like the truth more.
Haunted Backroads is not a paranormal-proof website and it is not a debunking site. We are a history-and-folklore publication. Our job is to tell the strongest version of a story that the evidence can actually support.
Reported Lore
Claims made by staff, visitors, local tradition, investigators or the property itself. We report that the claim exists without quietly converting it into fact.
Unverified
Famous details we cannot currently support with the record. We leave them labeled instead of filling the gap with confidence.
What we do not do
We do not invent murdered brides, dead children, secret tunnels or named ghosts because an old building looks better with them. We do not trespass. We do not encourage cemetery harassment. We do not treat mental illness, imprisonment, war or real deaths as Halloween set dressing.
What we will change
If a reader, historian, property owner or archive gives us better documentation, we update the story. A correction is not an embarrassment. It means the site is alive.
Source philosophy
Primary and institutional sources anchor the history. Property-operated paranormal claims are identified as such. Tourism agencies are useful for documenting that a folklore tradition is actively promoted, but they are not proof of supernatural causes.
